WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN A LESSON?
Lessons are 45-50 minutes in length. Part of the lesson will be spent in semi-supine (lying down with bent knees), which naturally allows for the back to lengthen and widen. This is a wonderful opportunity to release any excess tension you may have and fine-tune your awareness. The other portion of the lesson, we will be working with more dynamic, everyday movements such as: sitting, standing, walking, squatting, etc. If there is any interest in applying the Alexander Technique to a specific activity, such as: singing, playing an instrument, dancing, picking up/holding onto kids, working at the computer, public speaking, we will explore these activities as well.
Repetition and frequency are key in order for re-education to occur. Although one can experience benefits from a single lesson, it is recommended to take weekly lessons in order to provide long-lasting effects.
“The Alexander Technique is simultaneously light and profound. I have experienced long term positive benefits in myself, my body, and my persona; changing certain aspects that I hadn’t been able to change with any other technique or practice. The way in which the Alexander Technique approaches pain, gravity, movement, weight, structure, communication, and the nervous system is absolutely fascinating to me. The laughter and humor Katie and I shared during my lessons helped me to experience lightness, a greater sense of pleasure and relax even more. The laughter was very therapeutic and enriching. What a wonderful way to learn!”
